System Requirements
Installation and update instructions
  1. Extract the zip file
  2. Double-click Setup_5.0.40083.exe to start the setup
  3. Select the modules to be installed on that system
  4. (Repeat on other systems for distributed processing)

First start after installation
After installing ColorServer 5.0, the first start takes some minutes. As long as the server data are updated, the http-server is not running, the client is disconnected and shows the ‘red’ status. A pop-up message reminds to wait until the configuration is finished. The duration of the first start depends on the size of the server data and the computer performance. Once all data is updated, the Client connection will turn to the ‘green’ status. This is valid for new installations as well as for updates.

New features

Run Hotfolder Service as Windows Service

The option to ‘Run Hotfolder Service as Windows Service’ will be offered during the initial installation process of ColorServer 5.0.4 (not for update installations). Having activated this function, there is no need to have a logged-in windows account to run the Hotfolder Service as a desktop application (headless mode).
  • If you want to run the Hotfolder Service as a windows service, only local drives can be used as Hotfolder locations.
  • If you want to access network drives, a logged-in windows account is required. So, to access network drives, the Hotfolder Server must run as a desktop application.
  • For SmartProfiler users: If you use the 'ColorServer Printer', the Hotfolder Service must run as desktop application.

In the ColorServer configurator you can change at any time the choice you made during the installation process. In the ‘Service Monitor’ tab, you can define whether the hotfolder service should run as a service or as a desktop application.

Barbieri Spectro LFP qb

With the Barbieri Spectro LFP qb measurement device, you can use the latest measurement technology in SmartProfiler. The Spectro LFP qb captures M0, M1, M2 measurements in SmartProfiler.

Note: The camera unit and Ethernet connection are not supported.

Export/Import of Hotfolders and SmartProfiler documents including all linked resources

The new export function allows a simple and fast export of Hotfolders and SmartProfiler documents into a single ZIP file. All linked resources (e.g. hotfolders, templates, profiles, db3) are included. So a ready-to-use Hotfolder or SmartProfiler document can be imported in a different system. Default GMG resources can be omitted optionally to reduce the size of the ZIP file. During import the resources can be re-named as needed and in a conflict case existing resources can be resolved: it is possible to either keep or override the existing resources. Hotfolder templates are opened automatically in the end of the import process to set a valid host computer and shared location from the import site.

Tip: After the import the updated hotfolder parameters can be loaded into the SmartProfiler document, using the 'Synchronize' button, to keep the data in sync for a re-publish action.

Job Cleanup

Jobs and related files can be cleaned up automatically, to prevent disk volumes from running out of free disk space. In the Server Configurator the ‘maximum lifetime’ of a job can be defined. After a specified number of days or jobs, all jobs and related files in the repository will be deleted.

Support of FOGRA54

PSO SC-B Paperv3 (54) characterizes a web offset heatset printing process using PS6 (super calendered uncoated SC-B) medium.
ColorServer 5.0.4 supports the PSO SC-B Paperv3 (54) Standard and offers conversion, as well as InkOptimizer profiles for FOGRA54.

New PSO SC-B Paperv3 (54) Profiles:
  • CS_con_ISOcoatedv2-39L_PSO-SC-B-PaperV3-54_TAC270_V1
  • CS_con_PSO-Coatedv3-51_PSO-SC-B-PaperV3-54_TAC270_V1
  • CS_con_SCpaperEci-40L_PSO-SC-B-PaperV3-54_TAC270_V1
  • CS_res_PSO-SC-B-PaperV3-54_TAC270_keepK_V1
  • CS_sep_AdobeRGB_2_PSO-SC-B-PaperV3-54_TAC270_V1
  • CS_sep_eciRGBv2_2_PSO-SC-B-PaperV3-54_TAC270_V1
  • CS_sep_sRGB_2_PSO-SC-B-PaperV3-54_TAC270_V1
  • IO_PSO-SC-B-PaperV3-54_TAC270_G1_V1
  • IO_PSO-SC-B-PaperV3-54_TAC270_G2_V1
  • IO_PSO-SC-B-PaperV3-54_TAC270_G3_V1

Improvements in the XML JobTicket Set-up

The UI and structure of the XML JobTicket Hotfolder has been reworked. An automatic cleanup for jobs created by JobTicket XMLs has been added. Errors in the XPath reader and XSL transformation components has been fixed.

XML JobTicket documentation

A detailed documentation including sample files is available here. This documentation is suitable only for CS 5.0.4 (and later), not for former versions.

Resolved issues

The following technical issues have been resolved in GMG ColorServer 5.0.40083. Please note that the list describes the problem, not the solution.
Use Same Folder Structure in Output’ not used for job reports
When using the option ‘Use Same Folder Structure in Output’ the input folder structure was not reproduced. The report was written to: {report folder}/{report file} instead of e.g. {report folder}/Job1/{report file}. [00592, 00575]

Hotfolder Service - Shared Locations using a UNC path connecting to another PC
Hotfolder input paths inside a shared location configured with an UNC path, could create and process jobs successfully. However, when the computer the UNC path is pointing to was rebooted, Hotfolders using this shared location were no longer recognizing files and starting jobs. The workaround was to restart the hotfolder service monitor. [78143]

PDF Worker - Rename and remove spot colors
The spot color rules to rename and remove spot colors did not work. [00836]

PDF Worker - Single Channel Layer not preserved
Despite the enabled checkbox ‘Preserve Single Channel Layers’, the single channel layer was not preserved. [00827]

Server – Input file was not found in the repository
Under high workload the server could not respond to all request. This lead to connection problems between the workers and the server and error message such as: ‘Input File With ID '{xxxxxx} Was Not Found In The Repository’. [01576]

Image Worker – Tagged ICC removed if no conversion applied
The tagged ICC was removed in images for that no color conversion was defined and therefore the color space didn’t change. [77744]

Image Worker – Crash while processing JPEG with invalid Photoshop tags
The Image Worker crashed while reading a JPEG with many invalid Photoshop tags. [01188]

Image Worker – Grayscale images
Grayscale images were not converted. [01653]

Pdf Worker – Unknown error
If the image resampling was set to ‘bicubic’ and ‘3d sharpening’ was activated, the PDF processing ended up in an ‘unknown error’. The Pdf Worker crashed. [01280]

PDF files with 4byte Unicode Charaters in XMP data canceled with error
PDF’s with 4byte Unicode Characters in XMP data caused the error „Unknown error occurred Processing will be canceled". [68022, 62915]

PDF processing - Unknown error
PDF’s with 1px width/height images showed an error if image resampling was enabled: ‘PDF-to-PDF processed with unknown error’. [59603]

PDF with JPEG encoded Inline Images ran into the error ‘PDF-to-PDF processed with unknown error’ when PDF Output Format > Image Compression was set to ‘JPEG’. [46546]

A PDF with Inline Images processed with unknown error. [48984]

PDF with JPEG encoded Images with a linear quantization Table (no compression) processed with unknow error [64326]

Processed file could not be opened in Acrobat
A PDF file with a large DeviceGray image could not be opened in Acrobat after processing. [55616]

Hotfolder Service Configurator – Deletion of Shared Location or printer
When shared location or printers delete action was performed, no validation dialog appeared. The shared locations or printers were immediately deleted and the linked hotfolders became invalid. [00267]

Automatic Backup – Wrong suffix
The automatic Backup was created with the suffix *.env instead of *.bak. [79213]

SmartProfiler – Transmission measurement with Barbieri LFP
No SmartProfiler profiles could be successfully calculated based on transmissive measurements from Barbieri LFP. [78064, 01085]

SmartProfiler – Recalibration not possible if Temp is on E:\
The SmartProfiler recalibration could not be performed if the Windows folder for temporary data was set to E:\Temp. [00182]
